Hi All,
As a lurker on this list... and one of its alumi... this idea is right
up the alley of Slumbertechs of old. A new idea/technology/kludge
rises up and the MACEP gang gets together to learn how to exploit it
for the betterment of the community. Perfect.
What was always fun about the S-techs was that those who wanted to dig
into a project and go long hours working on it, could do so. Those
who ran out of steam at 10 or 11 pm, could hit the hay - or go home -
to return in the morning and find some of us with blurry eyes still
working away on the project. Networking a school, learning a new OS,
learning to print a newsletter (printing a newsletter), learning to
use computerized video editing, etc. have all been explored and put to
good use.
In this age of formal workshops and conventions, it's easy to
understand skeptics and those who "don't get it." But a Slumbertech
format with its cooperative learning model and pulling ourselves up by
our own bootstraps really works. I might come for a while too - and
bring my 30-something daughter, who owns a Wii setup and thinks that
Johnny Lee Chung is way cool.
I hope it's done on the cheap and in a school where some osmotic
learning about a school's network and curriculum can also be factored
into the event.
Cheers,
Mark
