MACEPers,
In partnership with Oregon Department of Education the Education
Enterprise Steering Committee (EESC) is making available $250,000.00
in grant monies to support needy schools in LastMile connectivity
efforts. The money will be available in the form of ten (10)
$25,000.00 grants for schools that currently do not have at least
10MBps of bandwidth at any point in their path to the Internet.
The grant supports schools, districts and ESDs working alone, or in
partnership, to provide last mile connections to increase the
bandwidth to the building at a rate of 10MBps or higher. These funds
may only be used to create Layer One and Layer Two connections to
large bandwidth providers and may not be used to off-set on-going or
monthly costs associated with bandwidth or data transport. Funds will
be made available immediately to winning grant applications and must
be spent before June 30, 2009.
The deadline to submit grant applications is October 14, 2008.
Complete details for the grant history and process can be found at http://www.oregoneesc.org/content/lastmile-connectivity-grants-2008-announcement
