Tricia's on to something -- there are so many amazing sites out
there, one hardly needs to purchase software. The North Clackamas
site had a great selection. My favorite sites for primary kids:
Starfall, PBS Kids, Highlights for Kids, and National Library of
Virtual Manipulatives.

My own children love to use our old digital camera, take their own
pictures and use comic life to add captions and titles to create a
story. My son, a third grader, has created several podcasts using
garageband, with very little instruction from me. He has also
started his own multiplication imovie.

If I were going to purchase anything, it would be Kidspiration. But
check with your school to see if they already have a licensed copy.
With the school to home agreement from Inspiration software, teachers
can install licensed software on a home computer. I use Kidpiration
with my own kids at home for the writing process, categorizing,
spelling practice and more.

Most public libraries have a plethora of computer games to check out
- like Reader Rabbit and Freddy the Fish. I think this is a better
route for these types of programs.
