[MACEP] ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR ISSUES

We are using Adobe Illustrator for our high school newspaper class.
 
Windows XP format on a Novell network.
 
When users save files to a shared network drive, a duplicate file is also saved but with a different name.  For example, a file saved as Fun Things To Do.ai also shows up as FUNTHI~1.ai.
 
Users can then only open the file with the ~1 in the name.  Can't open the other file.
