in taking any courses, don't wait, contact me immediately so that I can
add names to course rosters, lessening the risk of cancellations. Check
for course information updates by either contacting me directly via

automation too, as its primary scripting language.
You will also learn how to create your own
Automator actions (using AppleScript) to improve

Auto 101 Introduction to Workflow Automation and Scripting on OS X

Course Description
In this 3-day course, you will develop a love for developer tools,
using them to automate your workflow, WITHOUT becoming a full-blown

automate OS X. You will learn basic, but powerful automation and
scripting techniques that will launch you into the wonderful world of
automation, allowing you to spend more time doing more important things
in life. We will focus on modifying and creating custom automations
with Automator and AppleScript. We will then focus on Property Lists,
the Defaults Preferences system, and launchd, underpinnings to
automation. On day 3 we will focus on AppleScript Studio and Perl. At
the beginning of day 1, each attendee will select some important
real-world workflow problems, and then focus throughout the rest of the
course on solving those specific problems with automation. You WILL be
able to leave this session with the techniques you need to get started
automating (and quite possibly with a working automation you developed
in-class to solve one of your problems). A $100.00 discount is
available when registering for Auto 101 and Auto 201 together!

Hello,

Over the weekend I was cleaning out some things and ran across a box of
information from August, 1997 I had received while at Apple. With the
new school year starting up, I thought you may enjoy a quick trip down
"memory lane" of what would have been available from Apple ten years
ago.

* Steve Jobs had returned to Apple a few months earlier as the "iCEO".

* In August, at the MacWorld in Boston, Bill Gates announced that
Microsoft would invest $150 million in Apple and will develop and ship
future versions of its Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and
development tools for the Macintosh.

* The "All-In-One" 5400 and 5500 series units were the popular
education models.
These were with PowerPC 603e processors of 180/200/or 225 MHz w/ 32MB
of memory; 2GB hard drives; 12x CD-ROM drives.

* For those looking for separate monitor/towers, the 6500 series with a
275 MHz processor; 4GB of storage and with a built-in ZIP drive would
have been the deluxe education models.

* The "Preforma" line of consumer products were at dealers.

* "The Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh" was available in limited
numbers.

* The PowerBook 1400 and 3400 series of laptops were available.

* OS 8 was the current Operating System.

* LocalTalk was still built into every Macintosh. However, almost all
models offered an Ethernet upgrade as well.

* The Newton and eMate were available.

* And the ImageWriter II was still available (dot matrix printer)!!

Have a great 2007-2008 school year!
