Several districts in Oregon are using Linux Terminals. K12LTSP, the
software most folks use to run their terminals is put together by Eric
Harrison out of Multnomah ESD. Portland Public has quite a few linux
labs, as does Riverdale, and I believe Parkrose. I know there are others
out there as well.
The software is all free, so you can check it out anytime you want. It
runs on fairly modest hardware too, so you probably have a machine
laying around that would work for a testbed. You can download the
software from http://www.k12ltsp.org
There's also a mailing list for K12LTSP that is a great source of
information and support. You can join it at
https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/k12osn
Linux thin clients are great. The software is free, the hardware is
cheap, and the maintenance is easy (usually). You can't lose :)
