We do it by the room. HP4600CompLab

Our lasers don't get moved that much and it usually happens in the
summer when EVERYTHING is being moved and renamed.

Subject: [MACEP] Printer DNS Names

We're currently moving our school district printers to have DNS
entries so people don't have to know ip addresses. We were wondering
what other people are doing in the way of naming printers.
We thought naming them based on location would be good and make it
easy for people to locate printers.

For example an hp2100 in room 409 at Newberg High School would be
called NHS-RM409-HP2100

The problem with this set up is if the printer gets moved the location
is wrong.

We thought about numbering them NHS1 NHS2 etc. But that then the user
needs to know where that printer is located or worse what the number
of the printer is in the room down the hall.

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks,
Jamie McParland
