[MACEP] equation editor in MS Word 2003

We have a math teacher who has a new computer on his desk and he can access Equation editor; however, the symbols do not work correctly.  Some type as boxes and other are just the wrong symbols.

We uninstalled MS Word 2003 Pro and reinstalled, selecting the "complete install." That didn't seem to help.  Any suggestions?
