As many of you know, two of my main professional interests are
computers in education and math education. I have recently completed
writing two books that will likely be of interest to you if you have
children in elementary or middle school. The following two books are
available free on my Website:
Moursund, D.G. (June 2006). Introduction to Using Games in Education:
A Guide for Teachers and Parents. (157 pages.) Access at http://
darkwing.uoregon.edu/~moursund/Books/Games/games.html
Moursund, D.G. (June 2006). Computational Thinking and Math Maturity:
Improving Math Education in K-8 Schools. (108 pages.) Access at
http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~moursund/
Books/ElMath/ElMath.html
My next book will address the general topic of Information Age
Education, with the main focus being on how to improve education
through appropriate use of Information and Communication Technology.
It will be written specifically for parents of elementary and middle
school students, and the teachers of these students. I am looking for
input from parents of children in those grades, or older. I would
appreciate your comments on:
1. What your children learned about computers at home versus
what they learned about in school.
2. What you think that elementary and middle school students
should be learning about computers in school.
Feel free to send comments directly to me, or post them to my Blog at
http://cate.blogs.com/moursund/ under the category Parents and ICT in
Education.
Five other books on computers in education that I have written in
recent years are available free at http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/
~moursund/dave/Free.html#Books.
Thanks,
