I had a pair of rock solid 4th graders innocently type in the search term
"Barbie" several years ago, and were amazed to find a site where Barbie,
Ken, and perhaps other unnamed males, were to be found in rather
compromising positions. They had the brains to immediately get out of the
site and tell me, fortunately.
I had another student, 5th grade at the time, want to research the
American beaver. Her mother was particularly appalled at what that term
yielded from their home computer. I counseled them to, in the future, use
the scientific name for best results.
I fortunately have not had the experience of searching in front of a class
and being wholly embarrassed. Phew!
