I got a chance to use ajaxWrite this morning and it looks pretty good, still
very basic, but the technology behind it looks really promising for future
web based applications.

As far as web based applications, it seems likely that even MS Office will
be web based in the future:

I tried this one out before it died, and it was pretty impressive at first
blush. Unfortunately its import of .doc or .odf files that are anything
other plain text is pretty poor. For instance, it doesn't seem to support
landscape page layouts. It looks like it could be a great tool for certain
times and applications, but lacking the collaboration capabilities of
writely, (currently) poor import filters, and the extremely thorough
installed base of "real" Word-compatible word processors, it kinda seems
like a solution looking for a problem. I mean really, how often is someone
going to have an Internet connection, but not a word processor?
