1 Introduction
This update addresses several security and stability issues with
Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Entourage, and Microsoft
Visual Basic for Applications for Office v. X.
2 Installation
2.1 System requirements
You must have Mac OS X 10.1 or later installed on your computer to
install this update.
You must have Office v. X or any Office v. X program (Microsoft Word
X, PowerPoint X, Entourage X, or Excel X) installed on your computer
to install this update.
2.2 Installing the update
1. Before you install the update, close all Office v. X programs,
including Office Notifications, and disable any virus-protection
programs.
2. Double-click Office X 10.1.6 Update on your hard disk to begin the
installation.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
2.3 Troubleshooting
If you have trouble installing the update, check the following:
o Quit any programs that are running, including virus-protection
programs and any Office programs because they might interfere with
installation. Then restart your computer and try the update again.
o Make sure that the user account you use to log on to your computer
is an administrator account. For more information about administrator
accounts, see Mac Help.
o Make sure Aladdin Systems StuffIt Expander version 6 or later is
installed on your computer. If an earlier version of StuffIt Expander
is installed on your computer, you might not be able to install this
update.
o Make sure you have downloaded the correct language version of
Office v. X for Mac Security Update (10.1.6) for your copy of Office.
o If you have problems using Office programs after you install this
update, reinstall Office from your Office v. X CD-ROM and run Office
v. X for Mac Security Update (10.1.6) again.
3 Improvements included in Office v. X for Mac Security Update (10.1.6)
For more information about what has changed, see the Word Read Me,
Excel Read Me, PowerPoint Read Me, and Entourage Read Me files
located in the Microsoft Office X/Read Me folder after you complete
the installation.
3.1 Improvements for Word X
3.1.1 AutoRecover functions correctly when FileVault is enabled
Previously, setting the AutoRecover folder location (Word menu,
Preferences command, File Locations) to a location inside a FileVault-
protected home folder did not work. This has been fixed. FileVault is
an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 128-bit keys that secures
your home folder by automatically encrypting the contents. For more
information about FileVault, see Apple Help.
3.1.2 Security is improved when you open a document that has macros
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint now support an additional level of
security that affects macros that open other Office documents
containing macros. You can use the Application.AutomationSecurity
property to set the level of security desired. For more information
about the Application.AutomationSecurity property, see Knowledge Base
(KB) article KB 886633 at http://support.microsoft.com.
3.2 Improvements for PowerPoint X
3.2.1 Security is improved when you open a document that has macros
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint now support an additional level of
security that affects macros that open other Office documents
containing macros. You can use the Application.AutomationSecurity
property to set the level of security desired. For more information
about the Application.AutomationSecurity property, see Knowledge Base
(KB) article KB 886633 at http://support.microsoft.com.
3.3 Improvements for Excel X
3.3.1 Security is improved when you open a document that has macros
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint now support an additional level of
security that affects macros that open other Office documents
containing macros. You can use the Application.AutomationSecurity

(KB) article KB 886633 at http://support.microsoft.com.
3.4 Improvements for Entourage X
3.4.1 Corrupted e-mails could cause Entourage to stop responding
Previously, certain corrupted e-mails could cause Entourage to stop
responding when it was receiving messages with the Junk Mail Filter
enabled. This problem has been fixed.
