Hi Virginia,

I'm sitting here with Jonathan, my local Mac student expert. He says you 
need to have OS 10.3 or above, and then you can get X11 from 
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/x11formacosx.html or use the 
last install disk that came with your Mac.

We have Gimp and OpenOffice now as standard apps on our macs. They seem 
to work fine. Both of these require X11.
